About DF
DesertFishing is born out of three convictions. First is the conviction on the healing magic of self-expression through writing just as shopping or blogging are often anesthetic to many. Second, on the conviction over the power of prayer moments that are not totally different from a websurfer who curses every now and then when the server is down. Third, on the conviction over the ambiguity of self-emptying, or in simple terms, caring for the voiceless in our society, much more those who cannot blog due to some crippling illness or poverty, is a time-tested wisdom.
DesertFishing is partly personal journal and partly advocacy for lay contemplative living. Its primary aim is to discern the “traces of the Holy” in the desert of daily life, again, not quite different from bloggers who are always on a lookout for the latest WordPress widgets or Mozilla addons.
Thanks as you wriggle into this blog like a desert bug.
I traverse churchwork, hospitals, and the academe, blessed by the sheer grace of God to take up philosophy in college and then theology; as a Ford Foundation scholar for my grad studies in social science and health from the De La Salle-Taft; a grad fellow in St. Louis, Missouri; and as an alumnus of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, all on top of being a Catholic lay and family man. This background bespeaks of the areas I often wrestle with, or draw out some delights from. Muse with me if you have time…
For my convenience into silence, I gathered and grouped some of my reflections from DF into a simpler blog at LoweringNets.

Hi rabz,
Thanks to the msc phil.site, got to see your name and visited this site. Read some of your writings and was amazed thinking how you’ve transformed yourselves into one among the bests. I am happy for you especially that you carry with you always that Spirituality of the Sacred Heart that once mold us into who we are and bring us where we are now…warm greetings from Brasil!

the three great convictions are really evident in your blog…
lifequests, thank you for dropping by and for this affirmation
Hello DFish! I am sorry for the late acknowledgment of your posting on my site. I was thinking, you were just one of my friend-seminarians who, from time to time drop to my site. Well I suppose your name, DFish, made that impression to me.
Thank you for visiting my site. I have viewed your site and it is so impressive! Keep up the good work.
God bless all!
Felicissima,
Paul

Hapi Easter po sa inyo at sa inyong pamilya!

Wow, salamat sa paghapit. Blogging world, Clint is the smartest student I may have convinced that English Lit makes money. For all I know, he’s now one trying to convince a much younger gen. Back in my high school days, I could claim I had no match for his diligence and academic astuteness. This is one blogging moment when one, or you, could simply say you’re proud of someone because there is so much gifts in us, more realized in others, unrealized in most. Thanks Clint for what you make yourself out of the gifts, and what you will be in the process of sharing those.
just like any wandering websurfer (it should be called “webster” ) – but then Mr. Webster would dispute… surfer? if this is the “info highway” then why “surf” when surfing has something to do with a body of water… at least, according to Mr. Webster. case in point: yes, Mr. Webster would dispute.
sorry, i got sidetrack (typical surfer).
i call myself more of a lurker than a surfer. i am the “secret stalker” to some bloggers. i never give my two cents via comments… never, until now.
so here i am, reading some of your entries.
so here i am, count me in as your lurker (not secret stalker because if i say that then it wouldn’t be a secret:)) today, as i wander aimlessly, i was looking for a recipe… i found your page. i don’t cook but i need to cook. i didn’t find the recipe i was looking for but instead found your blog. yes, anything to do with my Faith, my country, my dialect and big and small things to make this world a better place greatly interests me.
keep writing, i may not chance upon your page again but it was nice to get to see it.
just like any wandering websurfer, i may never see it again (but since, this is the first time i left comment then it is guarranteed i will be back lurking again.)
thank you for your time.
for now, i still need a recipe for comfor food. this page has the kalamunggay sa bisaya na manok – nah… bisayang manok? we cll that free range chicken here, hard to find and price is 3x more! besides, this recipe is enjoyed when cooked by mom with friends and or family enjoying together. surely, it’s the company that makes anything taste better.
peace and until next time i come back…
straw b. – it has been my pleasure to read your comments. Come back anytime…
