Lumad Cum Laude

Clint, this news is for you.

The posting of this news comes not wthout a shadow of dilemma: how should this country highlight news from our minority indigenous brothers and sisters from the vista of equality and not from the pedestal of privileged position? Truly from the point that they are equally full of potentials as the schooled majority?  Dilemma aside, still I like to contribute to the project of consciousness-raising of this equality, mindful that anytime, I can infantilize them like growing babies needing my adult attention. Radical question, right? Just the social deconstructionist in me.

Anyhow, the news is one lumad graduated with honors from the Ateneo de Davao University: Jun Mark Amban, Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) Major in English. Amban is a college scholar supported by the Davao Light Power Company (DLPC) through the Mindanawon Initiatives for Cultural Dialogue. He is also a Grant-Aid scholar of Ateneo. You can read the rest of the news here, and the list of this year’s ADDU graduates here.
