Learn To Be Still

Opinion and Experience: The most talented folk rock band to me, with members almost ideally equal in their musical prowess, instead of being dominated by one artist – that’s The Eagles to me. I have long followed their music since high school, and wrote a post Faith on Eagles’ Wings. This song Learn To Be Still, from their album Hell Freezes Over is one signpost that surface noise aside, their longing for stillness lurks silently like most of us have but often never got into some lyrical form. It’s a great one!

“Learn To Be Still”

It’s just another day in paradise
As you stumble to your bed
You’d give anything to silence
Those voices ringing in your head
You thought you could find happiness
Just over that green hill
You thought you would be satisfied
But you never will-
Learn to be still

We are like sheep without a shepherd
We don’t know how to be alone
So we wander ’round this desert
And wind up following the wrong gods home
But the flock cries out for another
And they keep answering that bell
And one more starry-eyed messiah
Meets a violent farewell-
Learn to be still
Learn to be still

Now the flowers in your garden
They don’t smell so sweet
Maybe you’ve forgotten
The heaven lying at your feet

There are so many contridictions
In all these messages we send
(We keep asking)
How do I get out of here
Where do I fit in?
Though the world is torn and shaken
Even if your heart is breakin’
It’s waiting for you to awaken
And someday you will-
Learn to be still
Learn to be still

You just keep on runnin’
Keep on runnin’

    • Lumaki ka rin sa Eagles Blu? Medyo, this is a show of their group and individual maturity after their ego-blasting rift and “vacation” for 14 years…Common story of alienation and communion again, you know, like the prodigal son…

    • Band of the 70s sila so malamang, kabataan to ng Daddy mo Alvin. Uso pa rin dahon-dahon noon hahaha…you know like, Peace Man hahaha…

  1. I have to master that: to be still…

God has a very strange way of answering questions or confusions… most of the time I find them here in your posts… Thanks Dfish ^_^

    • @Miel you are right. kaya dito ako tumatambay. minsan doon sa bahay namin kasi nakaka turn off. nakakasakit ng sikmura kung minsan. minsan gusto ko na ring i-delete ang blog na yan at mawala na lang sa iri at mamuhay sa mundo (lupa) at kalimutan na lang.

      • Delete? I can sense what you mean Darbs and it’s not something literal. Ang tawag doon – pamamahinga mula sa matagal na panamin sa espiho hahaha. Kapoy pud baya sige pangispiho hahaha…

      • been there done that ALL THE TIME hehehe dont ask me how many blog urls i have already changed when I have that feeling… most of the time OA nako kaayo hehehe Musta igsoon?

    • Miel, talk of a God who not only brings order, but first disturbs all for the purpose of awakening us more close each day to our divine calling and nature. And i mean for all of us…

      • the problem is im scared of that ‘awakening’ … scared of changes… and being out from the ‘box’ i’m used to… perhaps if i open myself more and listen… God bless Dfish!
